Meridian Weight Loss Surgery

Our Experienced Bariatric Surgeon is Here to Help

Obesity is the #1 health problem in the nation, with more than half of Americans overweight and roughly 12 million Americans suffering from morbid obesity. If you're significantly overweight and want to make a lifestyle change, you may be a candidate for weight loss surgery.

About the Procedure

Gastric sleeve surgery is a surgical weight loss procedure that reduces the size of the stomach by about 75%. The decrease in stomach size causes patients to feel full sooner and may lower the production of hunger-inducing hormones, leading to significant long-term weight loss and health improvement.

Gastric sleeve surgery is performed laparoscopically through several small abdominal incisions which helps minimize pain and provide a faster recovery. The surgery lasts about an hour, and patients usually stay in the hospital for one to two days.

Most patients can expect to lose 50-60% of excess body weight in the first year after the surgery, and many see an improvement in chronic conditions and their overall health.

Candidates for Surgery

Surgery candidates should:

  • Have a Body Mass Index or BMI over 40
  • Have a BMI over 35 and are experiencing negative health effects, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, related to being overweight
  • Be more than 100 lbs. over your ideal body weight
  • And are unable to achieve a healthy body weight for a sustained period of time, even with medically-supervised dieting.
